CAGES aus Ludwigsburg bringen Screamo und emotive Hardcore wieder in die frühen 2000er zurück. Gegründet von Serkan (Gitarre, ex-We Had A Deal), Felix (Bass, Rêche/ex-Schönleben), Micha (Gesang, ex-We Had A Deal/ex-Schönleben), David (Schlagzeug) und Uli (guitar, ex-We Had A Deal) ist "Better Mistakes" ihre zweite Veröffentlichung. Hierauf präsentieren sie durch variablen Gesang zwischen Rufen und Schreien gepaart mit eingängigen teilweise melancholischen Riffs von Gitarren und Bass sowie einem akzentuierten Schlagzeug die Zerbrechlichkeit im Inneren und Äußeren. Aufgenommen im Fieser Schwan Studio in Stuttgart und gemastered von Will Killingsworth in den Dead Air Studios zeigt die Veröffentlichung die Screamo-Ursprünge von CAGES ebenso wie ihren Ideenreichtum und ihre Spielfreude. Michas emotionaler Gesang klagt sich durch persönliche Ängste, Frustration und immer wieder Politisches. Kombiniert mit optimistischen Gitarren ergeben sich daraus sechs mitreißende Songs voller Auf&Abs, in denen Intensität, Melancholie und Hoffnungsschimmer ihren Platz finden.
"Better Mistakes" von CAGES erscheint am 21.02.25 als Selbstveröffentlichung mit Hilfe der Labels Through Love Rec. (Deutschland), New Knee Rec. (USA), Shove Rec. (Italien), Slow Down Rec. (Finland), Fireflies Fall (Frankreich), Mevzu Rec. (Türkei) und Rufen Publishing (Japan) digital sowie als limitiertes Tape und auf einseitigem 12inch-Vinyl mit B-Seitendruck in einer Siebdruckhülle. Comments the band: "MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE is the opening track of our upcoming record BETTER MISTAKES, set for release on February 21st 2025. We chose this song because we feel our song writing approach to combine the aggressive drive of 90s-screamo with melody-driven riffs is best demonstrated here. Lyrically MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE revolves around self-righteous claims to absoluteness and the paternalistic megalomania arising out of closed world views. The video itself was made by our singer Micha (https://schwarzerrand.wordpress.com/), underlining how important a consistant DIY- approach is to us as a band.
