DARK FORTRESS – Video zu “Pulling At Threads"
Das Ende von DARK FORTRESS war leider unaufhaltsam. Von der Vertragsunterzeichnung mit dem unabhängigen amerikanischen Label Red Stream Records im Jahr 2001 bis hin zur „The Cosmic End Tour“ (mit The Spirit und Asphagor) im Jahr 2023, war der Weg voller Höhen und Tiefen.
Manchmal ist der selbst auferlegte Tod aber besser als ein langes Zombie-Taumeln und langsames in Vergessenehit geraten. Letztendlich gaben DARK FORTRESS ihre Auflösung bekannt, nachdem sie 2020 ihr gefeiertes letztes Album „Spectres from the Old World“ veröffentlicht hatten. Von „Eidolons“ (2008) gefeierter Film-Noir-Ästhetik von „Edge of Night“ und dem durchschlagenden Erfolg von „Ylems“ (2010) Video/Titeltrack bis hin zu Veröffentlichungen wie „Deaf Forever“ und „Decibel“, die „Spectres from the Old World“ (2020) schien die Band unbesiegbar. Doch DARK FORTRESS hinterließen zum Abschied ihr einziges Live-Album, „Anthems from Beyond the Grave“, als ihr letztes Geschenk an die uralten und unaussprechlichen Mächte der Dunkelheit und des Bösen. Das Album wird am 17. Januar 2025 erscheinen!

“I never thought DARK FORTRESS would have a live album,” says V. Santura (guitars). “The technical situation–we had multi-track recordings of two shows [Rotterdam and Bochum]–allowed for ‘Anthems from Beyond the Grave’ to happen. I didn’t even listen to the recordings for months after the tour. When I finally did, I thought, ‘Holy shit!’ We sounded incredible, and I'm hardly ever happy with our shows. All of our hard work had finally fallen into place on that tour. When Century Media heard it, they said, ‘We’re gotta release it–it’s too good not to’! If this is our end and it definitely is, then it’s a fitting end to DARK FORTRESS.”
