Die Extrem-Metal-Band Escuela Grind aus Neuengland wird am 18. Oktober ihr neues Album "Dreams on Algorithms" über MNRK Heavy (High on Fire, Zakk Wylde) veröffentlichen.
Aufgenommen im GodCity-Studio in Salem, Massachusetts, mit Produzent Kurt Ballou und gemastert von Nick Townsend (Dr. Dre, Betty Davis), ist die Platte der mit Spannung erwartete Nachfolger von Escuela Grinds gefeiertem Debütalbum "Memory Theater" aus dem Jahr 2022, das von der New York Times gefeiert wurde. Heute veröffentlichen Escuela Grind ein Video zur neuen Single "Concept of God", bei dem Seby X Martinez für Negative Kitty (Body Count, [adult swim]) Regie führte. Die Band sagt über den Track: "'Concept of God' is about the chaos that ensues when humans come together; the good and bad things that happen when opposites and like-minded individuals attract. The main lyrics in the song are, “the concept of god only exists because of people".

Über den Albumtitel 'Dreams on Algorithms' sagt Sängerin Katerina Economou: "We wanted to write an album that identifies what it’s like to consume in this era we live in: what we receive through our phones, the social media landscape, and personalized algorithms, and how it is translated by our subconscious. I think most people can relate to something in their online sphere infecting their dreams. This transfer was something we really wanted to expand on, and all of the songs have themes relating to dream analysis and technology."
Zuvor bereits veröffentlicht wurden "Always Watching You" und "Turbulence". Zu "Always Watching You" sagt Economou: "Most of "Always Watching You" was written in a practice space by Jesse and Krissy, and refined during soundchecks we had over the year. "I've had this desire to write a song where I could portray the obsessive-stalker-girl archetype through lyrics for a while. Although not physically threatening, it's really interesting that society is so terrified of this stereotype. In "Always Watching You", I wanted this fantastical, Nightmare on Elm Street-style imagery that was rooted in the gore and horror of death metal. Themes of parasocial relationships, anxieties from social media, and an omnipresent algorithm are strongly observed in this song and throughout the entire album."
Das auffällige Cover von AC Tremblay lässt die Kraft und den thematischen Gehalt von "Dreams on Algorithms" erahnen. "We have collaborated with the incredible AC Tremblay once more to create this vision of 'Dreams on Algorithms', sagt die Band. "We wanted a similar expression as our last album, but with a different color palette. The art of Kurt Seligmann, Bauhaus theater sets, Nightmare on Elm Street, Eiko Ishioka, and the Cremaster Cycle were source materials of inspiration for this visual storytelling. The amount of detail and attention that AC Tremblay pays to his drawing is what we love most about working with him. You’ll be able to find many Easter eggs from the album's lyrics within the artwork. We’re still finding new details."

Die aufstrebende 3-köpfige Band Torus aus Milton Keynes kündigt ihre neue Single "This Feeling" an, ein geradliniger Break-Up-Song mit melodischem Refrain feat. Alfie's (Vox/Guitar) Mutter an der Geige!

Das Video zu "This Feeling" gibt einen Einblick in das Live-Erlebnis von Torus, das durch Headbanging, Crowdsurfing und Mitsingen in Northamptons kultigem Independent-Kunstzentrum The LAB untermauert wird.

Die vorangegangenen Singles "When It Comes" und "Into The Clear" waren in der Introducing Rock-Show von Alyx Holcombe auf BBC Radio 1, in der Playlist von Kerrang Radio sowie den Tracks of the Week von Kerrang zu hören und die im Mai veröffentlichten Single "Avalanche" erwies sich sofort als Torus' beliebtester Song. Für ihr selbstbetiteltes Debütalbum hat die Band mit dem beliebten Produzenten Thomas Mitchener (Frank Carter / Gallows, The Damned, WARGASM, NOAHFINNCE) und dem Mastering-Ingenieur Grant Berry (All Time Low, Hot Milk, Busted) zusammengearbeitet.
“The sound of Torus is one that we aim to take simple, catchy hooks with good songwriting at their heart, and then make them heavy,” Glass explains. “I think Torus is the best version and clearest realisation of that aim that we’ve ever achieved.”
Ihr rasanter Aufstieg kam nicht ohne Herausforderungen aus, und das treffend selbstbetitelte Debütalbum von Torus, das am 13. September über MNRK UK veröffentlicht wird, ist ein Dokument und ein Zeugnis dafür, dass sie eine Zeit überstanden haben, die so schwierig war, dass viele andere Bands daran zerbrochen wären - ein “rollercoaster of emotions and struggles from a year which had many ups and downs and the mental battle of trying to work it all out whilst feeling isolated and disconnected to things close to you”, wie das Trio selbst es ausdrückt.
Im Mittelpunkt der Ambitionen von Torus steht jedoch nicht nur ihr eigener Erfolg. Durch die Gemeinschaftsinitiative Headcharge versucht die Band, die Szene, aus der sie stammt, zu unterstützen. Im nun fünften Jahr ihres Bestehens haben sie dafür in den Regionen Milton Keynes, Northampton und Bedford zahlreiche Live-Veranstaltungen und unterstützende Fanzines unter dem Banner der Initiative organisiert.
“Our goal with Headcharge is to help develop the scene for young people to discover new music, and to help give local bands the platform to perform that isn’t readily available to them,” so Glass. “If you come from a big city like London, you’re afforded so many more opportunities than bands that come from towns such as Milton Keynes, so we want to help try to level the playing field. We aim to make them 16-plus shows, and for them to be as affordable as possible, so that they are for everyone. It’s important to us that Torus can help give something back, to help create a musical community, and to give bands a chance to grow alongside us”

"It's been over a year since we released our debut single 'Sellout,'" sagt Varkatzas. "As we prepare for our upcoming tour with Nekrogoblikon, we wanted to celebrate by dropping a brand new banger 'The Unconquerable.' This song showcases our affection for Cradle of Filth-style, atmospheric black metal merged with the elements of metalcore and hardcore that we love. Lyrically, the song is about a feeling that is un-nameable and stronger than all else, something that propels you forward almost unconsciously with unrelenting drive and purpose. We hope you enjoy the track and ominous visualizer crafted by Riivata Visuals."
Dead Icarus stützen sich auf die kreative Verbindung zwischen Sänger Varkatzas, Gitarrist und Produzent Gabe Mangold und Schlagzeuger Brandon Zackey. Die Band lebt von dem unermüdlichen Einsatz ihrer Mitglieder. Die Musiker verfolgen ihre Kunst mit einer präzisen Ausführung von technischen Riffs, virtuosen Soli und Blastbeat-Attacken.
Unzählige Fans weltweit lernten Varkatzas zunächst als Mitbegründer und Frontmann der einflussreichen südkalifornischen Metalcore-Band Atreyu kennen. Nach zwei Jahrzehnten, in denen er mit zwei Gold-Alben und Gold-Singles und ausverkauften Shows rund um den Globus die Charts stürmte und von der Kritik gefeiert wurde, schlug er im Jahr 2020 sein nächstes Kapitel auf.
Mangold wurde als Gitarrist von Enterprise Earth gefeiert. Er und Alex verstanden sich auf Anhieb und schmiedeten eine musikalische Partnerschaft, aus der die 2024 erschienene EP "Ad infernum" hervorging. . Revolver sagte dazu: "Fans of old-school Atreyu will definitely enjoy."
